Play Rules




1.0 Starting the game

① Place the Colossus Card from the Deck in the Colossus Area.
② Shuffle your Deck sufficiently.
● You can shuffle and/or cut your opponent's Deck as well.
③ Place your Deck face-down in the Deck Area.
④ Decide the starting player.
● Decide with rock paper scissors. The winner becomes the starting player.
⑤ Draw 7 cards from the top of your Deck as your starting hand.
⑥ Change your starting hand if you need.
● The starting player can return up to 2 cards, and the second player can return up to 4 cards from their hand to the bottom of their Deck in any order. After that, both players draw the same number of cards that they returned from the top of their Decks and add them to their hand.
Due to a change in ruling as of August 2014, the starting player can now exchange up to 3 cards, and the second player can exchange up to 5 cards.
⑦ Start the game with the starting player's turn, with each player taking turns.



2.0 Turn flow

◎ 1 turn consists of the Start Phase, Main Phase, and End Phase.
◎ The player who is carrying out their turn is called the turn player.
◎ The first turn player is decided by rock paper scissors, and is called the starting player.
◎ During the Main Phase, the player who is not the turn player can perform moves as well during X-Play.
◎ After the End Phase, the other player becomes the turn player, and so on.




2.1 Start Phase

Complete Declaration Step
◎ While the game proceeds, if the turn player is certain that they have placed 6 Gem Cards face-down in their Locus, they can declare Gem Complete.
● If a player succeeds in their Complete Declaration, they win the game.

Recovery Step
◎ The turn player changes their OFF Position Followers to ON Position.
◎ The turn player recovers and returns their used Locus Points to a usable state.
● Remove the Locus Counter marking the used Locus Points from the Locus.

Draw Step
◎ The turn player draws 1 card from the top of their Deck and adds it to their hand.
● Adding cards from the top of the Deck to the hand is called "Draw".
◎ The starting player cannot draw during their very first turn.




2.2 Main Phase

◎ The turn player can perform the following moves with priority.
● In response to specific moves, the priority shifts to the opposing player during X-Play.
◎ The turn player can perform the following moves in any order, any number of times.
● A, B, C: Limited to once per Main Phase.
● G: The same Follower can only attack once per Main Phase.

A. Set 1 Gem Card on the Colossus
B. Set 1 card in the Locus
C. Activate 1 Colossus ability
D. Play an Action Card
E. Play a Follower Card
F. Play a Follower ability
G. Attack with 1 Follower
H. End the Main Phase




2.3 End Phase

◎ The turn shifts to the opponent's turn after the End Phase.
◎ The following actions are resolved at the same timing.
● Clear all Followers' status changes made during the turn.
● Recover all Followers' damage taken.
● The turn player discards cards from their hand until they have no more than 7 cards.
● Resolve all effects that activate at the End Phase.




3.0 X-Play (Cross-Play)

X-Play is a cross-over play of Snap Action Cards or Follower abilities, made in response to a play or a declaration, starting from the opposing player.

Process of X-Play

① X-Play starts from the opposing player, in response to a play or a declaration.
② If a player passes the X-Play, the priority switches to the other player.
③ If a player X-Plays, the resolution of the Snap Action Card or Follower ability played is put on hold, after the cost is paid, and the priority of X-Play switches to the other player.
④ If both players pass in succession, the X-Play moves on to the resolution of the Snap Action Cards and Follower abilities played.
⑤ Starting from the last Snap Action Card or Follower ability played, the effects of the abilities are resolved in reverse order from the abilities played during the X-Play.




4.0 What you can do during your Main Phase

A. Set 1 Gem Card on the Colossus
B. Set 1 card in the Locus
C. Activate 1 Colossus ability
D. Play an Action Card
E. Play a Follower Card
F. Play a Follower ability
G. Attack with 1 Follower
H. End the Main Phase

● A, B, C: Limited to once per Main Phase.
● G: The same Follower can only attack once per Main Phase.




4.A  Set 1 Gem Card on the Colossus

◎ Set 1 Gem Card from your hand onto the Colossus.
● You can only do this once per Main Phase.
◎ Gem Cards set onto the Colossus this way are called Set Gems.
◎ By setting a certain number of Gems, Colossus abilities can be used.
◎ Gem Cards set on the Colossus cannot be freely returned to the hand.
X-Play cannot be performed in response to setting Gems.
◎ After setting, continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.B  Set 1 card in the Locus

◎ Set 1 card from your hand into the Locus face-down.
● You can only do this once per Main Phase.
◎ You can decide what card to set from a tactical standpoint.
◎ You can also not set a card even if you have cards in your hand.
◎ Cards are placed in the Locus in the order of left to right.
● When there is insufficient space, place the cards over each over in such a way that the order is still recognizable.
● You cannot freely change the order of cards in the Locus.
◎ Both players cannot freely look at the cards placed in the Locus, including your own.
◎ Cards placed in the Locus cannot be freely returned to the hand.
X-Play cannot be performed in response to setting cards.
◎ After setting, continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.C  Activate 1 Colossus ability

◎ If there are enough Gems set to fulfill the conditions, you can choose 1 of the Colossus's many abilities, and use it once.
● Each ability has a different combination of colors and numbers of Gems as its condition.
● Gem marks that do not have a color specified can be fulfilled by Gems of any color.
● Both Set Gems and Capture Gems can be used towards fulfilling the Gem condition.



◎ Colossus abilities cannot be used during X-Play.
◎ X-Play cannot be performed in response to activating Colossus abilities.
◎ After activating, continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.D  Play an Action Card

◎ By paying the required cost, Action Cards can be used from the hand.
● Paying the cost and using an Action Card is called "Play".
◎ After playing, Action Cards are placed in the Discard Pile.
◎ As long as the cost can be paid, any number of Action Cards can be played from the hand.
◎ Action Cards cannot be used during X-Play, but their subtype, Snap Action Cards, can be used.

Play Declaration Step: the following are carried out at the same time
● Reveal the Action Card that you are playing from your hand.
● If a target is required, select the target.
● Pay the cost.
X-Play
Resolving the effect
● Apply and resolve the effect.
● Place the played Action Card in the Discard Pile.
● Continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.E  Play a Follower Card

◎ By paying the required cost, Follower Cards can be brought to the field from the hand.
● Paying the cost and bringing a Follower Card to the field is called "Play".
Follower/Unique Cards have a ★ to the left and right of their names, and only 1 Follower/Unique of the same name can exist on each player's field at the same time.
◎ As long as the cost can be paid, any number of Follower Cards can be played from the hand.
◎ Follower Cards cannot be played during X-Play.

● Reveal the Follower Card that you are playing from your hand.
● Pay the cost.

● Play the Follower to the field.
● Apply and resolve abilities that activate when Followers come into play.
● Continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.F  Play a Follower ability

◎ By paying the required cost, Follower ignition abilities can be used.
● Ignition abilities that require the Follower to be changed to OFF Position as the cost, cannot be played during the same turn that it comes into play.
● They can be played during your next turn after the turn that it comes into play.
(Followers also have trigger and continuous abilities, in which case, follow the descriptions of the card text.)

● Select the ability you are activating, and declare play.
● If a target is required, select the target.
● Pay the cost, and fulfill the conditions.
X-Play
Resolving the effect
● Apply and resolve the effect.
● Continue with the next play of priority in the Main Phase.




4.G  Attack with 1 Follower

◎ You can attack with ON Position Followers on your field.
OFF Position Followers cannot attack.
● Followers cannot attack during the same turn that they come into play.
● Followers can attack during your next turn after the turn that they come into play.
◎ Each Follower can only attack once during each Main Phase.
◎ Select one of three targets to attack.
● The opposing player's Deck, OFF Follower, or Locus Card.
◎ When the attack target is the Deck or Locus, and your opponent does not block, the Attack Resolution is carried out.
◎ When the attack target is an OFF Follower, or when your opponent blocks, the Battle Resolution is carried out.

Attack Declaration Step
● Select the attack target and the attacking Follower, then OFF the attacking Follower.
X-Play
Defense Declaration
● The opposing player who is attacked declares if they will block or not.
● If the opposing player blocks, they select an ON Follower to block, then OFF the blocking Follower.
X-Play
Attack Resolution / Battle Resolution Step
● When an attack to the Deck or Locus is not blocked, the Attack Resolution is carried out.
● When an OFF Follower is attacked, or when an attack is blocked, the Battle Resolution is carried out.

4.H  End the Main Phase

◎ When there is nothing left to do during the Main Phase, declare the end of the Main Phase.

5.0 What you can do during your opponent's Main Phase

◎ You can block with your ON Position Followers on your field, in response to your opponent's attacks.
◎ During X-Play, you can play Snap Action Cards or Follower abilities.




6.0 Ending the game / Deciding the match

◎ When the match is decided by either "Gem Complete" or "Deck Out", the game ends.
◎ "Gem Complete" is when a player succeeds in their Complete Declaration, and that player's victory is determined.
◎ "Deck Out" is when a player has 0 cards left in their Deck, and that player's loss is determined.
